Malaysia : Langkawi - Our arrival on the island

Hello Langkawi!

We are really starting to discover Malaysia through Eagle Island. This same island is full of myths and legends, including that of Princess Mahsuri. For being sentenced to death, and this wrongly for adultery, Mahsuri curses the peninsula over 7 generations of bad luck! I assure you the period of 7 generations has passed.

Tropical Eco Camping

Arriving on Langkawi, we just had the name of a campsite to stay 2 nights. We had not planned anything.

As at every tourist point, many taxis were present at the port to offer their service. We made the choice to go on our own to Tropical Eco Camping. We go to the nearest shopping center to be more visible and to find a car more easily for hitchhiking. Our first attempts are futile but we do not lose hope. A few minutes later, it's a van with 2 young men who agree to take us with them for a good piece of road. We take this opportunity to ask them for advice on places to visit, and in Langkawi there are things to do! They tell us about the Skycab, the funicular to do absolutely. We also learn that Langkawi is 99 islands. Yes, yes, 99 islands! It's enormous! We exchange on different topics until our paths separate.

Here we are again on the side of the road and we continue the rest of the way on foot to the camp. We meet people who pick the coconuts with a simple rope and we see that at the top of the coconut tree is a young man who helps with the harvest. Here he comes down without any difficulty and especially without any protection. To say that in France, this would be prohibited. I do not know how many protective harnesses. And this young boy does this quietly and with a smile please!

We continue our journey and we cross a jungle where the path is somewhat complicated even more when you have the big travel bag on the back. We get closer to the ocean and finally see the end of the trail. Arrived on the pebble beach, we are very surprised. We are facing a ghost camping. The welcome sign is on the ground, no tent, there are abandoned huts, and the presence of stray dogs that bark at us and chase the monkeys. It's the cold shower. Disappointment! We deposit our bags, we sit down to find a solution. What to do? We are looking on the internet site camping, we find. Ezekiel is looking for the campsite's phone number but we are in contact with someone who is not talking about camping but a resort. We are in complete misunderstanding. There is only one thing to do ... from here and back to the road.

We did not want to go back through the jungle, we take advantage of the low tide to go through the ocean. We finally reach the main road. What to do now? Where to go? We decide to take the stop and stop in the tourist street where are located hotels.

Desa Motel

We are waiting for very little time for a car to stop. We head to the vehicle and it is a damsel in distress that we meet. The latter has just arrived on Langkawi and has no more fuel in his rental car and has no battery on his phone to find a gas station with GPS. We tell him we have the equipment to help and direct him. We then get into the vehicle and go for the rescue mission. We reassure her that we will stay with her no matter what (it's always better to be several to push a broken car). Finally no need to push anything, we arrive in time at the station.

Our driver knows a hotel not too expensive to spend the night, it is also where it was his next destination. We agreed to follow it with pleasure. Arrived at the hotel, we follow our friend of the moment until the reception. We meet the owner of the place, a very nice gentleman, who gives us a room at the lowest price he can do us. We accept his offer and we would take the time of the evening to find accommodation that is more suited to our budget.

The room was really very spacious. We had a large entrance hall with 2 armchairs, the bedroom and the bathroom. It was more like a suite than a room. It overlooked a garden common to other rooms, and had a private terrace.

The next day we returned the keys to the room although the hotelier made us various fare proposals. He understood our situation and even helped us find other establishments and advised us Tsar Cottage. That's good, this is the hotel I found the night before. We thank this nice gentleman and left for a few minutes walk.

Tsar Cottage

The Tsar Cottage is the right compromise between city, nature and Zen. By the roadside you do not see the property directly but you have a long driveway that takes you to the reception. You have vegetation everywhere, multiple fish ponds directly below the bungalows. But that's not all. Monkeys are also free! You can watch them for the time of their presence. But be careful not to leave anything hanging on your terrace because they take everything!

The Tsar Cottage offers 2 types of accommodation:

- Tents located in the T-Garden with shared showers and toilets.

- Bungalows with private bathrooms.Caution, there is only cold water for showers!

But it's so hot that it's no problem. Another advantage of Tsar Cottage, you have cold water and hot water at will at the reception! Small detail not to be neglected!

We opt for the tent in the T-Garden. What is T-Garden? It is a large garden enclosed by screened doors. There is roasting everywhere but we understand very quickly the reason for this installation. It is actually an aviary! All birds are free. The fence prevents them from escaping but also prevents the monkeys from entering the garden and having fun with them ... We find our big tent which is located just in front of the houses of the birds. What luck!

The tent contains a lot of space. There are 2 small beds glued to each other, 1 desk, 2 fans, 1 central light and 2 small bedside lights. There is even 1 small terrace from which it is possible to admire the birds.

We thought we would stay 1 night but eventually it would be 4 nights in a tent. In the early morning and evening, we put the office outside on the terrace to write articles or videos in the presence of birds. In addition we could attend their feeding. The advantage of being in 1st place!

We also had the visit of various companions in the tent such as a lizard, who saw fit to cross the tent instead of going around, and a frog that was lost the poor.

A surprise in our tent

Subsequently we opted for 1 night in a bungalow to enjoy the private bathroom. Goodbye birds (we could always go to the aviary, it's free of access to guests of the hotel) and hello the monkeys. As for the tent, we had our small private terrace with 2 chairs and small table, all overlooking a fish pond. By opening the doors of the entrance, you access the room, then behind you had a space to put your bags, your shoes, a rod with hangers, and just after there was the bathroom made of stone that gave on a small private courtyard. We also had the visit, apart from the monkeys, of some frogs that were running around in the area.

A little frog on our terrace

We finally stayed 3 nights in the bungalow to enjoy the quiet, monkeys and the beach located 3 minutes walk.

For us it was a little paradise.

The hotel also offers scooter rental (partnership with the shop right in front of the hotel) as well as excursions to complete your stay. The staff are really lovely, helpful and honest.

Gastronomy

Right next to the Tsar Cottage we had taken our little habits for meals. We had 2 restaurants that I highly recommend if you go for a tour through Langkawi. It's about :

- The cactus: this establishment is filled with people. Sometimes you have to wait a while before having a free table. The food is good but I think it's mostly the band present every night that attracts the crowd

.- Maya restaurant: very very good restaurant and not expensive at all! We went there so often that the staff knew what drinks we would be taking.

We will return to Langkawi to discover the part of the island that we could not explore, but when?

Et maintenant...
